Born and raised in Tarakeswar, shaping an inner world of sensibility.
My name is Saumen Das, an artist by heart and practice. I was born and raised in Tarakeswar, Hooghly, a place deeply rooted in spirituality and culture, known for the sacred dham of Baba Taraknath. This environment has quietly shaped my inner world and artistic sensibility.
My journey into the world of art began under the guidance of my respected guru, eminent painter Shri Pradip Pradhan, whose mentorship played a vital role in shaping my artistic foundation.
Education & Artistic Growth
Foundation & Mentorship
I pursued my formal art education at Government Art College, Kolkata, where I completed my Bachelor of Visual Arts (BVA) and later my Master of Visual Arts (MVA) in 2011.
Professional Evolution
Before fully committing myself to art, I explored various professional paths. My first job was in 2012 at an ITI company in Salt Lake, Sector 2. Over the years, I worked with multiple companies, B.Ed colleges, and schools across Kolkata and Hooghly.
Dedicated Practice
Since 2015, I have been actively practicing as a working artist at the Kolkata Lalit Kala Akademi, continuing my artistic exploration and discipline till 2025. The call of the canvas was always too strong to ignore.
"Art is not just a profession for me; it is a way of seeing the world."
— Saumen Das
What I Bring.
I have had the privilege of working with art institutions, creative organizations, and private collectors worldwide.
Artistic Paintings
I create paintings inspired by both nature and human nature, exploring the hidden emotions of the human mind through colors, forms, and expressions.
Expression of Emotion
My artworks reflect the silent dialogues of the human soul—joy, pain, loneliness, love, and contemplation—captured through thoughtful strokes.
Life Within Objects
Through my paintings, lifeless objects come alive. In their silent existence, conversations unfold—of love, longing, separation, and pain.
Freedom of Medium
I do not limit myself to a single medium. Whatever feels right at the moment finds its way into my work. The idea and emotion always come first.
Visual Diary
My artworks function as a visual diary—capturing moments, emotions, and reflections of time through evolving forms and textures.
Process Over Perfection
I value the journey of creation more than perfection. Each stroke carries thought, hesitation, and discovery, making the process essential.
Let's create something meaningful.
